Worship and Music at St. Stephen's
Jesus
spent regular time in prayer and left us the great legacy of
celebrating His Risen presence with us in Worship and Holy Eucharist.
Our
worship is a friendly blend of ancient tradition and relevant
preaching. People of all types and ages help to lead us in worship. We
have dedicated, talented pianists and organists and a wonderful choir.
Our
weekly worship times are:
8 a.m.
Quiet Holy Eucharist (Rite I)
10 a.m.
Holy Eucharist (Rite II) with Choir
5
p.m.
Wednesday Evening Prayer Service
(June-August)
8 a.m. Morning Prayer (Rite I) and 9 a.m. Holy
Eucharist
(Rite II)
- The dates of this
schedule vary from year to year: we switch to our Summer schedule on
Trinity Sunday, which usually occurs in early June; and continue until
Newton Public Schools come back in session in late August.
 Adult Choir
- St. Stephen's Adult Choir is a dedicated group of
parishioners who give of their time and talent to serve God by leading
the congregational music on Sunday mornings and by offering up choral
anthems from the rich heritage of Christian sacred music. The choir
practices in the Sanctuary from 7-8 p.m. on Wednesday nights (and from
9 to 9:45 a.m. on Sundays). From September through May, the choir sings
at most 10 a.m. Sunday services, Some members chose to wear the
traditional choir robes; others dress less formally and sit with their
families during worship. Membership in our choir is open to anyone high
school age and up. You do not have to be a member of St. Stephen's to
sing in the choir. If you would like to sing with us, please drop in on
a rehearsal night and see/hear what we're all about. Or call Phyllis
Freeman (641-792-5440), or e-mail Barry Hurto (bhurto@pcpartner.net).
Special
Music
- Throughout the year, our parishoners share their musical
talents through solo and ensemble offerings during our 10 a.m. service.
Some sing, others play piano, organ, flute, violin, drums, recorder,
saxophone, and other instruments. Anyone willing to share his or her
talents is invited to help us worship God through the wonder of music.
